Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Chartless Chrome extension and the Chartless
apps for iPhone and Android, all made by CREEDYSOLUTIONS, LLC (Creedy Solutions). The extension (version 2.0 and later) is a side panel
in Chrome: a tuner, a live chord chart, a practice room and a string tracker. It
listens to the audio of the browser tab you choose, to your own playing through the
microphone, or to an audio file you pick, and displays the chords it detects in the
side panel (and, only if you turn it on, in a chord box on the page). The app does the
same on your phone from the microphone, from a web player inside the app, or from
an audio file you choose, and shows the result as a chart.
Short version: Chartless does not collect any personal
data. Audio is analyzed entirely on your device, in memory, and is never recorded,
stored, or transmitted anywhere. There are no accounts and no analytics. The
exceptions, all described below, are Pro license checks (a license key or the
free trial, plus a random install id — nothing else), the App Store launch email
list you can sign up for on this site, and feedback you choose to send from
inside the extension or the app.
The Chrome extension: what it processes, and where
- Tab audio — captured only after you press Chart this tab in
the side panel, and only for that tab. The audio stream is analyzed in
memory (pitch and rhythm features) and discarded immediately. No audio is
ever written to disk, recorded, or sent over the network. Pressing
Stop (or closing the tab) ends the capture.
- Microphone audio — used by the Tuner, by Mic charting, and
by Strings when you fingerprint or check a set. Chrome asks for microphone
access once; from then on the mic is opened only while one of those is
running and released when you stop. Same rules as tab audio: analyzed in memory,
never recorded, never written to disk, never sent anywhere. Chartless does
not play the mic back through your speakers.
- Audio files — a file you pick is read and charted inside your
browser, and kept in the extension's local storage so you can play it back
with its chart later. It is never uploaded. Deleting the song from Songs
deletes the copy.
- The page you're charting — when you chart a tab, the extension adds
its own script to that one tab. It draws the optional chord box (off unless
you turn on Show chords on the page) and reads the page's own title,
description, and channel/artist name (and any platform "AI-generated" label)
to name the song and to draw the optional AI-likelihood meter in that chord
box. That reading happens inside the tab and is not transmitted. The song's
title and page address are kept in your Songs library, locally.
- Songs, charts and chord sheets — the chords, key, tempo, bars and
progression detected for a song are stored locally in your browser so the
Songs library can reopen them and the next play locks in faster. Chord
sheet PDFs are generated inside your browser and saved to your Downloads
folder. Nothing is uploaded.
- Song pictures — for a song charted from a video site that publishes
thumbnails at a predictable address, the Songs library shows that video's
thumbnail, which your browser loads from the video site's own image server
(without sending the page you came from). Songs from anywhere else get a
chord-colored tile drawn locally.
- Strings — your instruments, string sets, fingerprints and freshness
checks are stored locally in your browser only.
- Your settings — mode, presets, instrument, tuning, practice
progressions. Stored locally in your browser's extension storage only.
The iPhone and Android apps
- Microphone — iOS or Android asks once. The microphone is open only while
Listen or the tuner is running and is released when you stop. Audio is
analyzed in memory and discarded; nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.
- Browser source — the app contains a web browser. When you press
Chart this page, the audio the page is already playing is analyzed
on the phone. The page's own title, description, channel name, publish
date, and any platform "AI-generated" label are read to draw the optional
AI-likelihood pill and the "find chart" search; none of that is stored or
transmitted by Chartless. The browser itself works like any browser: the
sites you visit set their own cookies and see your visit under their own
policies. Settings › Clear browser history & data wipes it.
- Audio files — a file you pick is copied into the app's private
storage so the chart can play it back later. It stays on the phone. Deleting
the song from Recent Songs deletes the copy.
- Charts and settings — the songs you chart (title, link or file,
key, tempo, chords), your instrument, tuning, and other settings are stored
on the phone only. No iCloud sync, no account.
- Shared links — using the share sheet to send a link to Chartless
hands the app the link and nothing else.
- Subscriptions — purchases go through Apple or Google Play.
Chartless receives a receipt that says a subscription is active; it never
sees your payment details, your Apple ID email or your Google account.
- No analytics, no crash reporting services, no third-party SDKs.
Feedback you send from the extension or the app
Settings › Send feedback (and, in the phone apps, a song's share menu ›
Report this chart) send a note to us. Nothing is sent unless you write the note and tap
Send. The note goes to our server
(chartless-license.creedysolutions.workers.dev) over HTTPS with:
- what you typed, and your email address only if you enter one (so we can reply);
- the app version, your iOS or Android version, the device model, whether
you're on the free tier or Pro, and your language setting (so we can
reproduce the problem) — in Chrome, the extension version and your
operating system instead of a device model;
- the chart of the song, only when Attach this chart is on (title,
key, tempo and chords; never the audio);
- the IP address the request came from, which the server records with the
note to keep out abuse.
It's used only to read and answer your feedback and fix Chartless. It isn't
shared, sold, or used for marketing, and each note is deleted automatically
after one year.
Deleting your data
Chartless has no accounts, so everything on your phone or in your browser —
charts, audio file copies, string fingerprints, settings — is deleted by deleting
the song or uninstalling the app or the extension.
The only things we ever hold on our server are feedback notes you sent and a
launch-list email if you signed up. To have them deleted:
- Email chartless@creedysolutions.com
with the subject Delete my Chartless data, from the email address
you used (or tell us roughly when you sent feedback if you didn't give one).
- We delete every feedback note and launch-list entry that matches, including
any attached chart and the IP address stored with it, within 30 days and
reply to confirm.
- Nothing is kept afterwards. Even without a request, feedback notes are
deleted automatically after one year and launch-list emails after the
launch email goes out.
The App Store launch list
If you enter your email on the iPhone app page, it is
stored on our server (chartless-license.creedysolutions.workers.dev)
with the date and the page it came from, and used for one purpose: emailing you
when the app is available. It is not shared, sold, or added to any other list,
and it is deleted after the launch email goes out. To be removed sooner, email
chartless@creedysolutions.com
from that address.
Affiliate links (Strings)
The Strings feature in the iPhone app and in the extension, and the
Strings page on this site, recommend string sets and
link to Amazon and Sweetwater. Those are affiliate links: as an Amazon
Associate, Chartless earns from qualifying purchases, and Sweetwater pays a
commission the same way. The link passes through our server so the click can
be counted (merchant, date, which set, and whether it came from the app or the
site) and so the affiliate code never has to ship inside the app. No personal
information is attached to the click. What you do on the merchant's site is
governed by their privacy policy.
What Chartless does not do
- No audio recording, storage, or transmission — ever.
- No collection of personal information, apart from what you choose to send
as feedback or a launch-list signup (described above).
- No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or third-party services.
- No accounts and no sign-ins. During listening and chord display neither
the extension nor the app makes any network requests (the app's
browser source excepted — the web page you're playing loads as it normally
would). The only requests the extension makes on its own are the license
checks described below.
- No modifying of page content. The optional chord box is drawn on top of
the page. The only page text the extension reads is the song's
title/description/channel, described above — never form fields, never
anything you type.
Chartless Pro licensing (the one automatic exception)
The first time you open the extension it asks our license server
(chartless-license.creedysolutions.workers.dev) to start your
7-day free trial, and when you enter a Chartless Pro license key it asks the
same server to check it. Each request contains exactly two things:
your license key (or nothing, for the trial) and a random install
identifier generated by the extension. No audio, no song data, no browsing
information, no personal details. The server answers with a signed
entitlement token that the extension verifies and stores locally. A license
or subscription silently re-validates every few days, so a renewal or a
cancellation shows up; everything else about the extension keeps working
fully offline. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy on their own checkout
page — the extension never sees your card.
Permissions, explained
tabCapture — to receive the tab's audio stream after you press
Chart this tab. This is the entire point of the extension.
offscreen — Chrome's mechanism for running the audio pipeline
in the background, so charting keeps going while you browse.
activeTab + scripting — to add the optional chord
box and the song-name reading to the tab you're charting. Injection happens
only on that tab, only after you press Chart this tab.
sidePanel — the side panel is where Chartless lives; the
toolbar icon opens it.
storage — to save your settings, songs, charts and string
fingerprints locally.
- Microphone — not an extension permission; a standard browser
microphone prompt you answer once, the first time you use the Tuner, Mic
charting or Strings. You can revoke it anytime from Chrome's site settings
for the extension.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the effective date above will change with it, and
material changes will be noted in the extension's and the app's release notes.
September 2026: added the iPhone app, the App Store launch list, and affiliate links for Strings. Later in September 2026: added the Android app, in-app feedback, and how to delete your data. October 2026: updated for Chartless for Chrome 2.0 — the side panel, file charting, Strings and feedback in the extension, the automatic free-trial check, and song pictures.
